Daniel Negatu

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Daniel has been making experimental, documentary and narrative work for the past ten years and holds an MFA in film production from York University in Toronto where he received the graduate program thesis prize.

His winning film, Harem, will tell the story of a Kurdish visual artist trying to make a new life in Canada in the middle of a pandemic while also balancing the nostalgia for his home country and loved ones.

2021 MENA Film Festival

Following a successful digital festival last year, we have exciting plans in store to bring your work to a wider audience base in Vancouver and across Canada!

We seek films of any genre, with particular emphasis on experimental and original portrayals of the MENA region that challenge stereotypes and bend colonial visions of the region and its diaspora. We welcome submissions from emerging as well as established artists from wherever MENA identities are found and forged.
